Precision Machining for Laser Cavity Spacer Components

Industrial Laser Manufacturer, Germany

Precision machining for laser cavity spacers, covering length requirements, mating surfaces, material condition, and inspection planning.

Account owner: PiPrecision Engineering Team

The Challenge

Laser cavity spacer components need their length and mating surfaces to be considered in relation to the customer’s assembly requirements. The drawing must make clear which dimensions and surface characteristics control the fit and location of the parts. The manufacturing review also needs to identify the material condition and the method used to check the relevant features. Improved laser stability cannot be concluded from a component’s dimensions without evidence from the complete optical system.

Our Solution

The machining approach combined turning and grinding with measurement of the specified component features. The review addressed the relationship between length, mating surfaces, and the inspection conditions needed for the drawing requirements. Surface texture and geometric requirements were treated separately when planning inspection. The RFQ for a similar spacer should identify the mating surfaces, length requirement, material condition, and the measurement method used for acceptance.
