The Challenge

The Ka-band ground station demanded precision bearing fits, corrosion resistance for outdoor installation, stable operation in Colorado temperature extremes (-30°C to +50°C), and ±0.008mm tolerance on critical surfaces.

Our Solution

Precision machining of 5083-H111 aluminum with chromate conversion coating per MIL-DTL-5541, precision boring for bearing fits, CMM verification, 1,000-hour salt spray testing, and thermal cycling validation.

The Results

±0.008mm tolerance achieved, passed 1,000-hour salt spray testing, tracking accuracy within 0.01°, ground station operational since 2024 with zero maintenance issues, expanded to additional ground stations.
